Here’s a look at what Enlighten Me covers:
- Shooting under cloudy or open skies and how to maximize each to your advantage
- How to “see” light and what direction it’s traveling in your setting
- Creating dramatic silhouettes
- Instructions on shooting in natural, low-light settings indoors
- Editing eyes
- How to produce or avoid sun flare and haze and how to use it to your advantage
- Catch lights, why they are important and how to capture them in camera
This course is 7 weeks long, offering 1-2 lesson per week for 5 weeks each in a different lighting scenario, and culminates with a “final project” on week #7. There will be both written lessons and video tutorials. Via a private forum just for our class, you will be given assignments, share your photos, and ask questions. Every picture that you post will be given individual and detailed feedback by me, usually within 24 hours. You will be able to see what the other students in the class are doing and asking too. But I know how busy you are, and I want this class to be flexible, so you choose when to check in online, view course material, and there’s no pressure since you work at your own pace. I will be available the whole time to answer your questions. After 5 weeks of lessons, you will have an additional 2 weeks to let it all sink in, practice, review and ask more questions.

What do other students think of the class?
You are by far the BEST photography teacher I’ve had the privilege of taking a class with. I thought it (Enlighten Me) was a GREAT class as usual. And looking forward to the next class! ~Elaine
I feel like this took my photography to a new level. Before this class, I just made sure the sun was behind me. Now I know that I can get great shots with different effects from all different angles and it has really opened up a lot of possibilities. I also learned to embrace the low light in my apartment. ~Elysa
It’s soooo good – the best class yet imo (the others have been great too but this one pulls everything together – lots of lightbulb moments & pushing us to try new things) & so much fun!! ~Deb
I am not the most talented photographer out there, but you wouldn’t know it from the images I was able to capture in this class. I learned so many new tricks and tips that I will continue to use as I enjoy my camera. Nancy’s patience and insight will boost your photos to the next level. Stop thinking about it and sign up! ~Brenda
I look back at the pics I took even 6 months ago and I can’t believe the change in them. For the first time I have confidence and I feel like I can really do this as a career. I AM a Photographer and I have you, Nancy, to thank for this epiphany. This class has been so much fun and I loved every minute of it. Thank you!!!! ~Bonnie
I feel that this class has opened up a whole array of shooting possibilities. It is like I have a little arsenal of skills to use based on what I want and what light is available. This class is taught me how to use my camera in different kinds of light to still get the shot I want. Love it! ~Rebecca
I was just thinking about how much I have learned in this class. I have grown so much in thinking about the pictures I take. Not only in taking the picture I am envisioning but also in envisioning shots I never thought of before, learning about light and how it effects my subjects. ~Patricia
I’ve always felt a little insecure about light. I had zero confidence in my ability to really work well with light consistently, and now I can tell that my understanding has grown a lot. Before I took this class I rarely pointed my camera straight at the light source. Learning how to do that purposefully has just doubled the creative possibilities for me. ~Dana
My favorite of Nancy’s classes so far! And that’s saying a lot considering how amazing the others are! ~Tyrie
